Peak season order volumes don't just scale up existing fulfilment: they expose whichever part of the process was already closest to capacity.
Inventory positioning is the first thing to get right: stock needs to be in the right warehouse before demand spikes, not shipped in reactively once orders start piling up.
Pick-and-pack throughput is usually the real bottleneck, not courier capacity. A fulfilment operation that can't scale picking speed will miss dispatch windows even if carriers have plenty of room.
Planning early (confirming stock levels, staffing and carrier capacity weeks ahead of the peak) is what separates a smooth peak season from a backlog that takes until January to clear.
